On Friday, November 3, the school hosted a screening of Dr. Stephen Scher’s ’52 documentary The Way It Was: Paris Restaurants in the 1970s in honor of national French week. Dr. Scher is former chair of the art department at Brown University.

The screening was organized by Ms. Sarinda Wilson, instructor in French; Ms. Marcie Wistar, director of student activities; and Mr. Brent Alderman-Stertse, director of gift planning, and was open to all members of the community.

In the early 1970s, Dr. Scher filmed Parisian restaurants and interviewed prominent chefs. Fifty years later, he compiled the footage to create The Way It Was, which has been shown in a number of film festivals, including the Rhode Island International Film Festival. The documentary provided students a glimpse of Paris in the 70s and an opportunity to discuss French food.
