Brennan Cail ’24 is a four-year Senior from Cheshire, Connecticut. Cail is co-captain of Boys Varsity Hockey, where he plays forward. He is also a pitcher and outfielder on Varsity Baseball. After he graduates, Cail will play for the Austin Bruins, a junior hockey team in the North American Hockey League.

What is your background in hockey?

No one in my family played hockey, so it was kind of a surprise to my parents when I put on a hockey helmet when I was three years old. Because my dad played football and basketball, my parents didn’t know too much about hockey, so it was a new world for me and for them. I played local hockey in Connecticut before I started playing travel hockey. Then, I learned about and got interested in Hotchkiss, and that’s how I ended up here.

What’s your favorite memory on the Boys Varsity Hockey team?

My favorite memory on the hockey team was last year when we beat Avon Old Farms at home. We were down three to nothing in the first period, because my team and I were both not playing so well. However, after the first period, we bounced back and won the game in overtime. The resilience that we had in that game was unreal. It’s one of the best games I have ever played in my life.

Who has been a role model for you on the team?

My role model during my Prep year was Karsen Dorwart ’22. He ended up going to the United States Hockey League, and he is playing at Michigan State right now. His leadership and work ethic really impressed me. He’s one of the best players that I’ve probably ever seen in my life. Also, he’s a really nice kid off the ice.

What are some of your goals for the upcoming season?

I definitely want to make a playoff run this year. It’s my fourth year at the school, and my Prep year got cut off because of Covid. Also, we didn’t have many wins my Lower Mid year. I am expecting a lot from the team this season: we have a lot of good players and new recruits. I’m just excited to work and go as far as we can.
